Keeping the Girls in Their Place in Edwardian Times

I was doing research on another subject and ran across there two ads in a 1908 Sear & Roebuck Catalogue. I had to chuckle at the descriptions "confining the bust with no pressure to its proper place" and "holding the flesh and and shoulder blades in place" and this is worn on top of the corset!

 
It was 44 cents in 1908, today's money would cost you $10.54

Do you need something to bring out the graceful lines of the figure? Then this item is for you! Beading around the neck and armholes sounds uncomfortable to me. Your cost in today's money $47.44
